I use it primarily for sharpening chisels and plane blades, but also use it to sharpen my kitchen knives. Yes, it is expensive, but I believe it is worth every penny. Economically at the rate at which I use my chisels and plane irons, I would have the machine paid off in about 2 to 3 years compared to a commercial sharpening service. Admittedly I also own several high quality waterstones, but I find it's significantly easier to use the T-7 and to achieve a sharper endstate making it more likely that I keep my blades sharp. Then, there is the simple joy of having razor sharp tools that cut cleanly and with minimal effort. From a safety perspective, having sharp tools increases your control.
